Our Administration

Our administration and staff are dedicated to Shepherd's mission to end the cycle of sexual abuse through healing and community awareness. We put our mission into action through compassionate, respectful, and effective service to our clients and to the community.

Jill Armitage

Director of Development and Communications

Jill.jpgJill Armitage, a part of Shepherd's Counseling Services since June of 2007, brings 20 years of experience working with nonprofit and public organizations.

Early in her career, she coordinated a volunteer-based program providing support and advocacy for sexual abuse survivors. She provided extensive training throughout the community on sexual harassment and sexual assault.

"I'm pleased to support the deeply meaningful impact of Shepherd's in the lives of many unique and extraordinary individuals in our community," Jill says. "I feel privileged to work with such a caring, professional staff and Board of Directors and to be associated with the particularly dedicated and thoughtful donors who support Shepherd's." She recognizes that it is because of the contributions of Shepherd's community of support that this successful and much-needed organization continues to make a difference in our community and in so many individual lives.

Brook Avidon, MA, LMHC

Clinical Coordinator

Brook.jpg"I feel honored to be the one who first welcomes people to Shepherd's. It is my job to ask, 'How can we help?' and to work collaboratively with each client to explore the services we offer and find the best fit for them. For some, this is the beginning of the process of healing".

Brook comes to us with 25 years of experience working with sexual abuse survivors in a variety of settings. She values what Shepherd's does, including its focus on the importance of the therapeutic relationship in healing from trauma. She understands that moving through trauma takes time and patience and appreciates that Shepherd's affords both to its clients.

Brook describes the lens through which she views the world as a combination of wonder and curiosity, and the filters she uses to process it as compassion and creativity. It is her hope that everyone who walks through the doors of Shepherd's find their way to being fully who they are.

Connie Hoover

She manages all of the accounting and insurance billing and works hard to help these processes go as smoothly as possible for clients. She enjoys being part of Shepherd’s team and supporting the services and programs provided here.

Janice Palm, MA, LMHC

Executive Director

Janice.jpgThe executive director's role at Shepherd's Counseling Services is to lead, cultivate and keep the agency alive in order to ensure that the agency's mission "to provide quality and affordable therapeutic services to adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse" is carried out to its fullest potential.

For Janice, the duties go one step more: To protect and respect the clients. "I am extremely vigilant and respectful of the work that clients do here," she says. By making sure that Shepherd's core value of unwavering respect for the dignity of all people permeates the clinical and administrative culture of the agency, Janice says, "it ultimately radiates to the clients we are privileged to serve."

It is Janice's work as a therapist that fuels her passion and resolve to ensure that programs, administration, board function and staff development work in concert to provide the greatest possibility of stability and effectiveness. Shepherd's has a tremendous responsibility and challenge in providing a very expensive service at very affordable rates -- and a record of success that shows that it works.
